South Rim Sunset at the Grand Canyon

One of my last nights in Flagstaff, Brandon and I went up to the South Rim and watched the sunset. I have to describe the sense of space I got from looking into the canyon as 'massive.' By looking at it, I could feel the great weight of the air sitting inside the canyon. We could see, very distantly, Phantom Ranch, which looked like a tiny patch of green. I have never heard so many different languages spoken in the space of an hour, as I did while watching the sun go down that evening. The horizon was sprinkled with distant thunderstorms, and warm intermittent showers rolled over us, making rainbows. On the way back, Brandon and I pulled over to watch some of the most spectacular thunderstorms I have ever seen. We figure that we were about a mile away from one of them, and two miles away from another.
