Attention: Arlin Crotts, Professor
We seek a Postdoctoral Scientist to conduct research into the variable
star population and microlensing event rate in external galaxies. The work
will include analysis of data from a wide-field CCD survey of M31, covering
most of the stars in that galaxy. Data are being obtained at several
observatories, including MDM Observatory, of which Columbia controls a 25%
share. The successful applicant will have access to MDM for this and other
projects, and will be free to devote 50% of his/her time to individual
research including unrelated topics. Duties will include observing and
pipeline data reductions as well as analysis and interpretation. This
position is available for one year with the possible extension to up to
three years, starting in mid-to-late 2000. Applicants should provide a
curriculum vitae, summary of research, and three letters of reference by
March 31, 2000 to the address above, although consideration of applications
will begin immediately. Further
